Elizabeth Taylor Perfume

Elizabeth Mary Rosemond Taylor was born in London on February 27th, 1932, the second child of Francis and Sara Taylor. Her parents were American but came to England to start an art Gallery. Taylor spent the first 7 years of her life in England but moved to America with her family in 1939 because of the impending war. A family friend suggested the young Taylor go for a screen test and she was signed at the age of 9 by Universal Studios and appeared in her first film called “There’s One Born Every Minute”. Universal let her contract drop and she was signed with MGM, appearing in Lassie Come Home in 1943. After a few more films, she achieved child star status by appearing in the hugely successful National Velvet, which grossed $4 million at the box office.

Throughout the rest of the 1940s and into the early 1950s Elizabeth appeared in film after film with mostly good results, her busiest year being 1954.

She attended school on the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lot and received a diploma from University High School in Los Angeles on January 26, 1950, the same year she was first married at age 18 to Conrad Hilton Jr. In fact Taylor is as famous for her husbands as she is for her films, marrying 8 times. After this first marriage she wed Michael Wilding in 1952, Michael Todd in 1957, Eddie Fisher in 1959, Richard Burton in 1964 and 1975, John Wamer in 1976 and Larry Fortensky in 1991. They divorced in 1996.

In 1963, she became the highest paid movie star up until that time when she accepted $1 million to play the title role in Cleopatra. It was during the making of this lavish production when she met Richard Taylor who was her co-star, Mark Anthony.

Taylor finally won her first Oscar in 1960, for Butterfield 8, after being nominated twice previously for Raintree County and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, but losing out first to Joanne Woodwood ,and then Susan Haywood. She won another in 1966, for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. She announced her retirement from acting in 2003.

In 1999, she was declared a Dame Commander of the British Empire. Elizabeth Taylor also works tirelessly for many charities. In 1985 her good friend and former co-star Rock Hudson died of AIDS. Using her fame as a strong voice in the fight against the deadly disease, the actress became the founding national chairman of the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR).

Taylor is not just famous for movies and husbands, but also for her passion for jewellery. Over the years she has owned a number of well known pieces, two of the most talked about being the 33.19 carat (6.638 g) Krupp Diamond and the 69.42 carat (13.884 g) pear-shaped Taylor-Burton Diamond, which were among many gifts from husband Richard Burton. Her enduring collection of jewelry has been eternalized with her book My Love Affair with Jewelry (2002).

In 1979, she auctioned off the "Burton-Taylor Diamond" to fund a hospital in Botswana. Taylor also auctioned her engagement ring from Burton to raise money for an AIDS charity.

In 2005, she partnered with Jack and Monty Abramov of Mirabelle Luxury Concepts in Los Angeles to introduce the House of Taylor Jewellery. In 2005, House of Taylor Jewelry formed a partnership with Kathy Ireland Worldwide, a design-and-marketing firm with more than US$1 billion in annual sales. Her love of jewellery is clear from the names of her perfumes: Passion (1987), White Diamonds (1991), Diamonds and Rubies, Diamonds and Emeralds, Diamonds and Sapphires and Black Pearls (1995). In 2006 Taylor celebrated the 15th anniversary of her White Diamonds perfume, one of the top-10 best selling fragrances for more than the past decade.

Today Elizabeth Taylor’s health is failing. In 2004, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She has broken her back five times, has survived a benign brain tumor operation, skin cancer, and has faced life-threatening bouts with pneumonia twice. She is reclusive and sometimes fails to make scheduled appearances due to illness or other personal reasons. In February 2007 Interview magazine devoted a whole issue entirely to Elizabeth Taylor, a celebration of her life, career and up-coming 75th birthday.
