Herbert De Givenchy was born in 1927, in Beauvais, France to a wealthy family. His father died when he was very young and he was brought up by his grandfather, an artist and tapestry maker. He demonstrated a passion for fashion from a very early age, and was only 10 when he visited the World’s Fair in Paris, and decided he wanted to become a fashion designer.
