Jasper Conran Perfume
Jasper Conran was born in London on 12th December 1959, the son of designer Sir Terence Conran and author Shirley Conran.
Conran was educated at Bryanston School in Dorset, and later studied at New York’s Parsons School of Design. It was in New York, in 1977 where his first collection was produced, for Henri Bendel. Later that year he returned to London and worked for Wallis, where he produced their Special Line.
The first Jasper Conran women’s wear collection was shown in 1978, establishing his hallmark trend of using expensive fabrics such as cashmere and silk in classic cuts. The following year he was elected to the London Designers Collection and soon became known as “the Calvin Klein of London”. Main pieces from his collections changed very little from season to season, allowing many of his garments to be regarded as long-term wardrobe investments. For two years running, 1982 and 1983, Conran won the Fil D'Or International Linen award.
In 1985, Conran organised Fashion Aid, the designers’ version of Live Aid, to help with the Ethiopian famine crisis.
Conran introduced his first men’s wear line in 1988, which reflected the classic tailored style of his women’s wear, quintessentially English but with use of bold colour. The following year Conran won the British Fashion Council Designer of the Year Award and the year after won the Fashion Group of America award.
In the late 1980s, Conran designed a less expensive, Jasper "J" Conran collection for the Debenhams department store and produced a collection of bridal wear for Caroline Castigliano.
In 1989 he opened his shop in London’s Brompton Road.
Conran extended his fashion repertoire and ventured into costume design for Jean Anouith's ballet, The Rehearsal and subsequently to the theatre for a London revival of My Fair Lady, and David Brintley's Edward II, performed by the Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1997. His theatrical flair for colour and defined style readily translated to the stage. In 1991 Conran received the Laurence Olivier award for Costume Designer of the Year.
In 1990 Conran signed a ten-year licensing agreement with the Marchpole Group Plc, the UK subsidiary of Bidermanns S.A., to produce and market his men's clothing lines. This arrangement would allow for Conran's menswear designs to penetrate the market in Continental Europe and the U.S., and to expand his men's collection to include coats and accessories. Conran would also be able to produce a more affordable line of menswear.
Throughout the (0’s, Conran continued to design costumes for various productions and also designed a new range of crystal for Waterford Wedgewood. The following year he followed this up with a tabletop collection of fine white bone china.
In 2003, he launched his first collection of furnishing fabric and wallpaper manufactured and distributed by the designers guild and available worldwide. It was also in this year that he launched his signature fragrances, Japer Conran Man and Jasper Conran Woman.
He continued to expand and designed three fireplaces for Chesneys. In 2005 he opened his flagship store in London’s Mayfair. The following year he celebrated his 10 year anniversary, designing a Limited Edition Women’s Wear Collection
