Marc Jacobs Perfume
Marc Jacobs.
Marc Jacobs was born in New York City on April 9th 1963. As a child, his Grandmother whom he cites as his biggest influence taught him how to knit. After graduating from the High School of Art and Design, he attended Parsons School of Design. Whilst at Parsons, he sold his first line of hand knitted sweater at the popular boutique, Charivari, where he had been working as a stock boy. During this time, he also won 3 significant awards, the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award, and the Design Student of the Year Award.
He designed his first collection for Reuben Thomas Inc., under the Sketchbook label. In 1984, Jacobs formed a partnership with Robert Duffy, Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc, which is today still in business. Backed by Kashiyama USA Inc, he designed his first collection bearing the Marc Jacobs label, in 1986. The following year he received the honour of becoming the youngest designer ever to be awarded the fashion industry’s highest tribute, The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for Fashion Talent.
Jacobs and Duffy joined Perry Ellis in 1989, with the latter as President and the latter as Vice-President of women’s design. In 1992, the CDFA awarded Jacobs the Women’s Designer of the Year Award.
Currently, Jacobs works at Louis Vuitton as artistic director, where he created the company’s first ready-to-wear line and collaborated on the popular graffiti bags. He also designs his own lines, the up-market Marc Jacobs line and the lower priced Marc by Marc Jacobs
His fashion shows are always packed with celebrities, with music stars Rod Stewart, Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone, Harry Connick Jr. and Debbie Harry most recently lining the runway.
In 2002 Jacobs was one of 24 designers honored by New York City in the Fashion Walk of Fame, where bronze plaques are placed along the pavement of 7th Avenue, New York’s great street of fashion.
Nicknamed the “Guru of Grunge” by Women’s Wear Daily, his style is distinctive including bright colours, bows and buttons, empire lines, rugby stripes and oversize prints.
Marc Jacobs’ first perfume was launched in September 2001, in conjunction with Parfums Givenchy, under the name Marc Jacobs.
