CERRUTI Perfume

The House of Cerruti was founded in 1881 by Antonio Cerruti as a textile mill in Biella, Italy. The reins of the business were handed to son, Nino, at the young age of 20, following the death of his father. Nino began by improving the mill and being both a designer and a business man, saw the possibility of a vertical operation - manufacturer and design house at the same time. In 1957, Cerruti launched the Hitman label. This menswear collection was the first ever own-house label for any textile mill and was considered to be a revolution in menswear. In 1967 the Cerruti menswear line was launched and in 1968 a women’s-wear collection followed. The first Cerruti 1888 boutique was opened in Paris in 1967, followed later by boutiques in London, Milan, New York, Tokyo and Munich.

Fashion icon Giorgio Armani began his career designing menswear for Cerruti in the 1960’s although Nino Cerruti remained the chief designer.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s Cerruti expanded and diversified its products launching sportswear, and perfumes, including Nino Cerruti Pour Homme (1978), Cerruti Fair Play (1984), Nino Cerruti Pour Femme (1987), and 1881 (1988).

Cerruti was also involved in tv and film fashion, creating the distinctive Miami Vice look. He also designed costumes for Pretty Woman, The Witches of Eastwick and Philadelphia.

In October 2000, in an effort to secure global expansion, Nino Cerruti sold 51% of his company to Fin.Part, an Italian industrial group, that would less than a year later buy the rest of the company and force Mr. Cerruti out after irreconcilable differences at age 71. The spring-summer 2002 showing in Milan saw Nino Cerruti take leave of the family business created over 120 years before. He now concentrates on the family owned textile mill in Biella.
