DOLCE & GABBANA Perfume
The high end fashion house Dolce and Gabbana was started by Sicily born Domenico Dolce, and Stefano Gabbana from Milan, Italy. The pair met whilst working as assistants in an atelier in Milan. The pair became both business and life partners. They shared a love of the baroque and in 1985, they made their name at the Milano Collezioni fashion show launch for new talent. In 1986, they launched their women’s ready-to-wear show, and later a menswear line as well as a line of signature fragrances, opening shops in Italy, Japan, Hong Kong and London. The company is based in Milan.
Dolce and Gabbana are best known for cutting edge designs, making underwear outerwear and encouraging women to embrace their voluptuous sexiness. In 1993, Madonna hired them to produce 1500 costumes for her world tour cementing their long term business relationship. D&G have also designed for Mary .J. Blige and Whitney Huston, as well as many film and T.V stars.
Fragrances are another D&G trademark with new scents being added to appeal to specific consumer age-groups.
Despite being relatively new to the design scene, by 1997, their company reported a turnover of £400 million, prompting both designers to announce that they planned to retire by the age of 40, an intention they did not keep. In 2005, the pair announced that they were to separate in their personal life, yet the company has remained and they continue to design together.
