LA PERLA Perfume
The La Perla group began as a small corsetry laboratory in Bologna, created by Ada Masotti. Her son Alberto, having graduated in medicine, decided to dedicate himself to the family business, and La Perla became a leading concern in the field if corsetry and swimwear fashion. Alberto’s wife Olga who was the first stylist of the swimwear fashion lines, is today the supervisor of the La Perla Pret a Porter collection. Their daughter Anna represents the third generation with the artistic management of the group, with Antonio as the President.
During the 1960’s, lingerie changed from being viewed as a practical necessity, to being a much sought after fashion accessory. La Perla embraced this new view, and began to produce two-piece lingerie in a range of original colours. These were an immediate success and soon coloured lingerie began to appear in clothing stores, in contrast to the neutral and white lingerie items that had up until then been commonplace. La Perla then designed flowery two-pieces with lace trimmings, which were again, a big hit.
The 1970’s saw a new era of lingerie, using stretch materials, creating light, comfortable, free-moving garments. Towards the end of this decade, La Perla had given lingerie back the seductive image denied it by feminists. In 1978, the company made lingerie history by launching the first ever stretch lace matching sets.
Women during the 1980’s began to choose lingerie that matched the elegance and style of their outerwear, and La Perla stepped up their advertising campaigns to pander to this desire, creating romantic feminine lingerie. The first ever stretch lace wide shouldered body was launched by the group in 1983, and was a forerunner of the “under-jacket” body which was designed to be shown off.
In 1994 La Perla launched Sculpture, a naturally styled bra that revolutionised underwear.
La Perla began, in the 1980’s to expand into fragrances. These are described as a homage to the world of seduction, each exclusive fragrance enhancing the relationship between La Perla and sexy sophisticated women of elegance.
